Data plan provider backed up by Deutsche Telekom, parent company of T-Mobile. Low rate data package covers usage of over 450 MB with a lifetime of over 7 years. Additional data available at a cost of $25.00 per 500 MB. Although the cost per GB is high, the long lifetime of package may make this option the best choice.
Calculating usage:
In a security setting with very low activity such as a remote cabin or worksite, average usage is less than 50 MB per month.
Usage numbers:
Standby only (24/7): Under 30 MB per month – usage may be higher in areas with poor signal coverage.
Alert Message from activity: About 400KB
Standard Definition Video and Audio: About 1 MB / minute
High Definition Video and Audio: About 5 MB / minute
Estimated low-usage scenario includes 24/7 standby plus 20 minutes active low resolution usage per month.
Known limitations on cameras:
Camera uses Lithium Polymer batteries for operation when solar or external power is not available. In Alaska, from October until March, unit will have periods of non-operation during cold or extended cloudy weather. Low temperature limit of batteries is +4 F for use and +32 F for recharging. Camera has been tested down to -40 F with bright sunshine or external power connected.
Pan-Tilt motors may cease to function at temperatures below -15 F.
Camera lens is not heated and will be subject to frost, rain, dust. Protecting camera with an overhead cover may minimize this problem.
Motion detection may trigger on any movement increasing power and data usage. Leaves, branches, hanging objects, etc might need to be cleared or relocated.
Camera contains software and hardware developed and connected to entities located in other countries including China and Germany which may be limited by United States or other country government action or cellular provider limitations.
Satisfactory performance of camera requires signal from cellular provider. Data SIM provided automatically selects best carrier available.
Full service package does not include coverage for loss or theft of camera.
